Demonstration against Conference on remigration
from the opposition Democratic Party (PD), 5-Star Movement (M5S) and Green-Left Alliance (AVS) on Friday occupied the Lower House's press room to prevent a conference on 'remigration' taking place there.
The conference was organized by Domenico Furgiuele, a lawmaker for the right-wing League party, and a spokesperson for the Casapound movement and members of other far-right groups were among the speakers scheduled to speak.
House Speaker Lorenzo Fontana, also a League member, had called the conference "inappropriate" and called on Furgiuele to reconsider holding it.
But Deputy Premier, Transport Minister and League leader Matteo Salvini blasted the occupation of the press room as 'intolerable' and his party said it would not be stopped by a "gag" on freedom of speech.
